A Shadow

A Shadow.

Is always there, always present. A constant reminder; a representation of darkness.

It always lingers, even in the back. Doesn't matter if you forget about it; it'll never leave once it settles in the deepest part of yourself.

It can be silent, on good days. But it's always louder, in the quietest of nights. It never surrenders, nor does it give up. It's always constant in its only mission, which is to make you feel bad.

It's dark, it's sad; it's angry and mad. Its voice is like poison, spewing constantly the most horrendous of negativities, over and over again. About how not good enough you are, about how nobody loves you.

It can all be true or false, but no matter what, the bite always stings, and the pain never goes away. You can either learn to live with it or let it slowly kill you instead.

What can never change, though, is the presence of the Shadow. The constant reminder or our darkest secrets and fear. Made out of insecurities and love-inflicted wounds.

The Shadow grows in the absence of love and happiness, it prays on loneliness and solitude most of all. What we can only do to fight it is to not feed it anymore.

Let it sleep, don't wake it up. Cause if you do so, it will only start to consume you once more.

You cannot run, you cannot escape, and even if you confront it, you might lose the fight. The best way to deal with it is to learn to live alongside the Shadow.

Don't let its whispering voice turn into a shouting one. Don't let its cold claws sink any deeper into your heart.

Even when resistance might seem futile, you can't let it take control of your mind.

So fight; resist against the Shadow. It's your only hope of survival.
